Rep. Zeiger receives ‘Guardian of Small Business’ Award from NFIB
In recognition of his work on small business issues, Rep. Hans Zeiger recently received the “Guardian of Small Business Award” from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). State lawmakers were graded on 10 key votes they took over the two-year legislative cycle. Members with an 80 percent voting record to support small-business owners received the award.
“I am honored to receive this award, but I feel we have a lot of work to do to make our state small business-friendly and provide our small businesses some certainty and stability,” said Zeiger, R-Puyallup. “I visit small businesses in the Twenty-fifth District on a regular basis and continually hear about the challenges they are facing. Both parties need to work together and reach some common ground that will make Washington more business-friendly.”
NFIB State Director Patrick Connor applauded Zeiger for his support and standing strong to improve the business climate in Washington.
“Many legislators say they support small business, but it is far different than actually voting with small business when facing pressure from big labor, big business and other advocates of government regulations,” said Connor. “Representative Zeiger is one of those legislators who fought for free enterprise despite the opposition because he knew it was the right thing to do for the job creators and small business in his district and in Washington state.”
According to NFIB, small businesses represent about 98 percent of all employers and employ more than 53 percent of the private-sector labor force in Washington. In 2010, small businesses numbered 546,885.
The 2014 legislative session ended on March 13. The 2015 legislative session will begin on Jan. 12.
